design stories

The backstories behind some of my graphic designs.

this became a prophetic piece. September 11, 2011, i'm a grad student in New York - and the whole world changed. hearing a boisterous city eerily calm, quiet, and collected - everyone doing their best to make their way home in peace - because we were experiencing terror in real time. we became united...and there had to be a response.

this piece was a response to that response - simply put...access to information can lead to misinformation...that is the part that became prophetic.

trayvon martin was fatally shot on the evening of February 26, 2012 in sanford, fl. i lived in orlando, fl at the time, about 30 minutes away. i created this piece as part of the public outcry. the upraised fist has long been used in art as social commentary since the l. 19th c. i added the biblical overlay from proverbs 1:20-21 because its as if the african-american community had become wisdom personified. and as i write this reflection, if i have to tell you what followed, all i can ask is that you do a little research because this piece also became prophetic.
